Life Span In general, men have a higher mortality rate and shorter life span than women.
Defined as A man is a male human
Identified through Men never give birth to babies, the reproductive organs are different & the hair growth on parts apart form the head & genitals.
Symbol The symbol for the planet Mars is the sign also used in biology for the male gender.
Physical attributes Men are taller than women on an average, more sturdily built with higher stamina & weight lifting capabilities and hair on face, chest, belly, arms & legs.
Nature Males are generally more physically aggressive than females.
Health Implications Men suffer from many of the same illnesses as women.
Academic Orientation On average men perform better on tests of spatial and mathematical ability ( citation needed ).
Occupations In the early ages men were responsible for food & security. Prime duties included hunting, agriculture, taking care of canteen, protecting women & children from wild animals & enemies. In the recent ages, the occupation borders have blurred.
Homosexuality Referred to as gay.
Stands For Wide Area Network
Covers Large geographic areas (e.g., cities, states, nations)
Definition WAN (Wide Area Network) is a computer network that covers a broad area (e.g., any network whose communications links cross metropolitan, regional, or national boundaries over a long distance).
Speed Less speed (150 mbps)
Data transfer rates WANs have a lower data transfer rate compared to LANs.
Example The Internet is a good example of a WAN
Technology WANs tend to use technologies like MPLS, ATM, Frame Relay and X.25 for connectivity over longer distances
Connection Computers connected to a wide-area network are often connected through public networks, such as the telephone system. They can also be connected through leased lines or satellites.
Components Layers 3 devices Routers, Multi-layer Switches and Technology specific devices like ATM or Frame-relay Switches etc.
Fault Tolerance WANs tend to be less fault tolerant as they consist of large number of systems.
Data Transmission Error Experiences more data transmission errors as compared to LAN
Ownership WANs (like the Internet) are not owned by any one organization but rather exist under collective or distributed ownership and management over long distances.
Set-up costs For WANs since networks in remote areas have to be connected the set-up costs are higher. However WANs using public networks can be setup very cheaply using just software (VPN etc).
Geographical Spread Have a large geographical range generally spreading across boundaries and need leased telecommunication lines
Maintenance costs Maintaining WAN is difficult because of its wider geographical coverage and higher maintenance costs.
Bandwidth Low bandwidth is available for transmission.
Congestion More congestion
