In Chinese philosophy (and cosmology), Yin and Yang are two forces that maintain the harmony of the universe and influence people's lives and fates.
Yin is the passive, negative, dark and feminine force.
Yang is the active, positive, bright and masculine force.

The principle of yin and yang is represented in Taoism by the Taijitu (literally "diagram of the supreme ultimate"). The term is commonly used to mean the simple 'divided circle' form, but may refer to any of several schematic diagrams representing these principles.
